In 1992 Maas began producing prototypes of sculptures for a garden center. Although the work brought in the money, the assignments didn't interest Maas at all. While learning how to make molds and replicas, his dissatisfaction with the cheesy character of the sculptures led to the idea to design limited edition sculptures at low rates that everyone could affort. The sculptures were numbered and provided with a certificate of authenticity.
In 1999 Maas was asked to design the entrance of the Torture Museum in Antwerp. He worked on the assignment together with his sister Maaike Maas. He designed a head of an executioner who graced two striking panels at the entrance of the building.
